Assalam Community Foundation (ACF) in Zanzibar welcomes volunteers to engage in education, community outreach, and permaculture initiatives that support underserved populations.
Volunteers contribute to programs for children and youth, vocational training for women, environmental sustainability projects, and cultural exchange activities.
Their tasks may include teaching and leading workshops in science, arts, sports, leadership, and entrepreneurship; maintaining permaculture gardens; tree planting; beach clean-ups; and food distribution.
Work takes place both at ACF’s campus in Kizimkazi and through outreach programs across Zanzibar, reaching children, women, youth, and orphans in remote villages.
The project promotes peace, empowerment, sustainability, and social inclusion, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Volunteers receive structured training, mentorship, and continuous support while gaining hands-on experience in education, community development, and eco-friendly practices within a multicultural environment.
🏠 Accommodation, Meals & Transport
Volunteers are housed in shared rooms (3–4 per room) on the ACF campus, with WiFi available and no commute between living quarters and the workplace.
All meals are provided daily by ACF—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—along with tea, coffee, and water throughout the day. Upon arrival at Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ), volunteers are picked up by ACF and transported directly to the project site. Personal travel during free time is at the volunteer’s own expense.
🎓 Training During the Activity
Volunteers will receive practical training tailored to their roles, including teaching and facilitation, vocational training support, permaculture and sustainable agriculture, and event/workshop organization.
In addition, personal and professional development sessions will cover entrepreneurship, leadership, intercultural communication, teamwork, humanitarian principles, and community development.
Weekly evaluations, ongoing mentorship, and continuous guidance ensure volunteers are supported throughout their stay.
👥 Participant Profile
Ideal participants are motivated individuals eager to work with children, youth, and women in education, outreach, and permaculture projects.
Volunteers should be open-minded, respectful of local traditions and values, and willing to live and work in a community-based environment.
Teamwork, punctuality, commitment, and active participation are essential. Basic English communication skills are required, along with an interest in cultural exchange, sustainable living, and community empowerment.
