💵 Financial Support
Selected interns will receive a minimum of $13,351 USD to cover program-related expenses, including travel, housing, and living costs. Housing payments are made directly to the provider on behalf of the intern.
Interns who successfully complete the program and submit a first-author abstract accepted for the upcoming Lunar and Planetary Science Conference may be eligible for an additional $1,500 USD travel stipend.
Participants are invited to apply for a 10-week immersive research opportunity at the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) in Houston, Texas.

While students majoring in physical sciences, natural sciences, engineering, computer science, or mathematics are especially encouraged to apply, all eligible applicants will be considered.
Program Dates: June 1 – August 7, 2026 Interns will collaborate one-on-one with a scientist from LPI or NASA’s Johnson Space Center, contributing to active research projects in planetary science.
🧭 About the LPI
Located near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in southeast Houston, the Lunar and Planetary Institute plays a key role in advancing scientific understanding of the Moon, planets, and the solar system. The internship program is supported by NASA’s Planetary Sample Science initiative.
🔬 What the Program Offers
This summer internship provides undergraduate students with a hands-on research experience in planetary science, offering the chance to work alongside leading experts, develop new skills, and explore future career paths.
In addition to research, interns will participate in enrichment activities such as lectures, professional development sessions, and networking events.
👥 Who Can Apply?
Open to students from the United States and around the world
Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with at least 50 semester hours completed
Preference given to students in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), but all eligible majors are welcome
Strong English language proficiency is required
