oung people interested in international volunteering and intercultural learning have the opportunity to participate in a 33-day European Solidarity Corps (ESC) Volunteering Team in Sardinia, Italy. The project has been established to support the organization of a major sporting event that has attracted Brazilian Jiu Jitsu enthusiasts from around the world for more than a decade.
By taking part in this initiative, volunteers will gain practical experience in event management, teamwork, and international cooperation while contributing to a large-scale cultural and sporting festival.
Supporting an International Sports Festival
The volunteering activity is connected to a renowned annual event held in Sardinia every September. Over the past ten years, the festival has become an important meeting point for athletes, visitors, and local communities by combining seminars, competitions, and educational activities.
Beyond promoting sport and healthy lifestyles, the event also encourages intercultural dialogue, mutual respect, personal development, and the exchange of values among participants from different backgrounds. Sport is used as a powerful instrument for strengthening social inclusion and international understanding.
Volunteer Responsibilities
During the 33-day activity, volunteers will actively contribute to different stages of the event, including preparation, implementation, and evaluation.
Their responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with internal and external communication,
- Supporting logistical operations,
- Helping with participant engagement,
- Contributing to dissemination and promotional activities,
- Facilitating dedicated event sessions,
- Assisting with the final evaluation and reporting process.

Accommodation, Food, and Travel Support
The volunteering activity is funded by the European Commission through the European Solidarity Corps Programme.
Participants will benefit from:

- Monthly pocket money,
- Partial travel reimbursement based on the distance between the participant’s country and Cagliari, Sardinia, according to ESC funding rules.

Before departure, selected volunteers will participate in an online preparation programme designed to introduce them to the project and its objectives.

Previous volunteering experience, particularly in sporting events or community activities, may be beneficial but is not mandatory.
Is Sports Experience Required?
No specific technical skills are required for participation. However, experience or interest in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Grappling, martial arts, sports in general, event management, or additional foreign languages may be considered an advantage during the selection process.
