Goals and Objectives
The Youth Peace Camp aims to bring together young people and youth organizations from areas suffering from conflict in dialogues and peacebuilding efforts based on human rights education and intercultural learning, both during and after the camp.
The objectives of the 2024 Youth Peace Camp are:
- Developing participants’ awareness and basic competencies (knowledge, skills, and attitudes) in human rights education, peacebuilding, and intercultural learning to empower them to engage in dialogue and confidence-building actions with other young people affected by conflict.
- Enabling mutual learning from experiences of conflict and strategies for coping.
- Promoting relationship-building as a fundamental component for peacebuilding and dialogue.
- Introducing and exchanging existing youth work practices and experiences of young people engaged in dialogue and conflict transformation within their home communities.
- Empowering and assisting participants in their roles as multipliers and peer leaders in peacebuilding activities with young people, encouraging them to undertake follow-up initiatives.
Methodology
The peace camp’s program will be grounded in mutual learning among participants, using a range of methodologies.
Participants will have the opportunity to share personal experiences with conflict and violence, as well as the coping mechanisms they have developed.
The program will allocate time for participants to examine the relationship between identity and conflict in their respective regions, both for young people and themselves.
Personal reflections and group discussions within community cohorts will be mixed with exchanges, learning, and reflection among youth from various conflict areas.
A key feature of the Youth Peace Camp concept is the motivation and opportunity for young people to live, learn, and engage in discussions with peers with whom they might otherwise find it hard to establish contact or cooperation.
A team of skilled trainers and facilitators will design and manage the program. They have direct experience with the regions represented by participants and can communicate with them in their native languages.
Participants will be encouraged to implement their peacebuilding initiatives with the guidance and support of facilitators, share their experiences with peers, and advocate for the values and methodologies of the Youth Peace Camp.
Financial and practical conditions
Dates: Participants should arrive on 2 July to the European Youth Centre, Strasbourg and leave on 11 July.
Travel expenses: Travel expenses and visa fees for reaching Strasbourg will be refunded according to the rules of the Council of Europe. Only the participants who complete the whole Youth Peace Camp can be refunded.
Accommodation: Full board and lodging for the Youth Peace Camp will be offered and paid for by the Council of Europe at the European Youth Centre.
