Applications are now open for the Analog Mania ESC Volunteering Project, an international cultural initiative taking place in Timișoara, Romania, under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) programme. Designed for young people passionate about photography, film, music, and cultural heritage, this project offers a unique opportunity to work alongside artists and cultural professionals while gaining practical experience in festival organisation.
Founded in 2013 by artist Emil Kindlein, Analog Mania is an internationally recognized festival celebrating analog photography, classic photographic processes, cinefilm screenings, and analog sound experiences. Most activities are hosted at the Youth House, with additional events organized at various cultural venues across Timișoara.
Project Overview
The volunteering activity will run from 27 September to 10 November 2026, with the core project activities taking place between 28 September and 9 November 2026 (travel days excluded).
Throughout the programme, volunteers will actively support the preparation and implementation of cultural events while collaborating with experienced artists, photographers, and professionals from the creative sector.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Participants will contribute to a wide range of cultural and artistic activities, including:
- Assisting in the organization and delivery of the Analog Mania Festival.
- Supporting exhibitions, artistic workshops, and cultural events.
- Working closely with artists, photographers, and creative professionals.
- Helping promote festival activities through both online and offline communication.
- Contributing to the preparation, coordination, and implementation of cultural programmes.
- Supporting community engagement and international cultural exchange initiatives.
The project offers valuable hands-on experience in cultural event management while allowing volunteers to become part of Romania’s vibrant artistic community.
Accommodation, Food and Financial Support
Accommodation will be fully provided by the host organization at the Youth House.
Volunteers will receive:
- Shared accommodation in rooms with two or three single beds.
- Private bathroom facilities.
- Access to a fully equipped shared kitchen.
Meals will be self-managed. Participants will prepare their own food using the shared kitchen facilities.
Financial support includes:
- €5 per day as a food allowance (paid weekly).
- €4 per day as pocket money.
- Payments will be made in Romanian currency, either by cash or bank transfer.
- Travel costs will be reimbursed according to the funding rules and travel budget established by the European Solidarity Corps programme.
Training and Learning Activities
Throughout the volunteering period, participants will take part in an extensive learning programme designed to strengthen both technical and interpersonal competences.
Training activities include:
- Team-building sessions to improve cooperation and group dynamics.
- Logistics training focused on the safe and proper use of equipment.
- Practical workshops introducing the artistic and technical foundations of analog photography.
- Hands-on experience with film shooting, developing, and printing techniques.
- Professional exhibition preparation, including curation, printing, installation, and presentation.
- Reflection and evaluation sessions supporting personal learning and group development.
- Educational activities centered on solidarity, culture, creativity, and intercultural exchange.
These activities provide participants with practical skills that can be applied in future cultural projects and international volunteering experiences.
Participant Profile
The project is looking for motivated young people who meet the following criteria:
- Aged between 18 and 30 years old.
- Able to communicate in English at a conversational level.
- Interested in cultural events and willing to help promote them both online and offline.
- Motivated to develop new skills in organizing, implementing, and promoting artistic and cultural activities.
- Legally residing in a European Union country.
- Passionate about analog arts, including photography, film, music, or related creative disciplines.
Previous experience is not mandatory; enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to learn are considered the most valuable qualities.
