Volunteer Initiative Overview:
Progetto Giovani is on the quest for a diverse group of 10 volunteers, both from the local area and abroad, who are passionate about social issues to delve into the themes of disability and inclusion.
These volunteers will engage in various activities within Padova, aiding in the adaptation of office tasks such as language workshops to be more inclusive, assessing the accessibility of key cultural sites, and forging partnerships with local organizations dedicated to serving individuals with disabilities.
Their role includes bolstering the recreational programs provided by these centers, which are orchestrated and overseen by specialized staff and educators, and encompass painting, music therapy, crafts, and tailored physical activities.
Additionally, volunteers will have the opportunity to craft and disseminate their own unique project aimed at spreading these initiatives and fostering a culture of social inclusion among the youth and broader community of Padova.
Living and Logistics:
Volunteers will reside at OPSA, a residential complex situated 5km from the heart of Padova, in the neighboring town of Rubano.
This serene park-like setting is designed to support adults with significant intellectual disabilities and is equipped with communal and healthcare facilities, educational spaces, and a chapel, as well as a dining hall.
Accommodations include shared bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms (housing 2-4 individuals) and a shared living space.
The organization will provide meals, either served in the dining hall or as a take-away option for activities outside the premises. Additionally, volunteers will receive local transit passes and a daily allowance of €6.
Educational Experience:
Throughout their time with Progetto Giovani, volunteers will be immersed in non-formal educational techniques to facilitate workshops, benefit from continuous support, and partake in instructional sessions.
These sessions will encompass a range of topics, including the principles of volunteering, understanding disability inclusion, and its societal impacts, as well as the challenges and prospects it presents.
During hands-on experiences, volunteers will receive mentorship and assistance in small groups from professionals experienced in working with people with disabilities, guiding them in activity preparation and engagement.
