Project Description
HANDS is an ITINERANT Volunteering Teams project under the European Solidarity Corps, running in Sicily from May 20 to July 10, 2025 (including travel days).
The initiative spans activities across 4 DISTINCT TOWNS, another location dedicated to Welcome Training and Final Evaluation, and extends to 15 additional areas in central Sicily.
This project brings together international volunteers to engage in non-formal education activities aimed at supporting children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those with disabilities, migrants, and other vulnerable groups.
Volunteers will partake in workshops, research, and activities to identify educational needs, innovate strategies, and advance inclusive learning practices.
HANDS promotes intercultural collaboration and encourages active engagement with local communities.
Volunteers will design activities, implement awareness campaigns, strengthen local networks, and contribute to creating sustainable models for addressing educational poverty in both rural and urban contexts across Sicily.
Accommodation, Food, and Transport Arrangements
Throughout the project’s duration, accommodation is fully provided.
Participants will receive a stipend for meals (food pocket), and all transportation related to project activities within the region is covered.
Travel expenses to and from Sicily are reimbursed according to official distance thresholds. Volunteers are entitled to 2 free days per week and 2 holiday days during the experience.
Training During the Project
Volunteers will begin with an initial Welcome Training to familiarize themselves with the project’s objectives, methods, and tools, with a focus on non-formal education.
A Mid-Term Evaluation session will facilitate progress assessments, experience sharing, and address emerging challenges.
The project concludes with a comprehensive Final Evaluation, allowing participants to reflect on personal development and collectively review the project outcomes.
