This project set to take place from September 7 to 13, 2024, in the historically enriched city of Thessaloniki, Greece.
This comprehensive program delves into the narratives of children uprooted from their families amidst conflicts, with a particular lens on the eras of World War II and the Greek Civil War.
The educational journey commences with the poignant tales of youth whisked away from territories under German dominion, such as Poland, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine, during the Second Great War, only to be forcibly assimilated into the “Aryan” fold upon their arrival in Germany.
This exploration extends to the stark realities faced by the young during the Nazi occupation of Greece in the same global conflict.
Moreover, the discourse will encompass the fate of those taken during the tumultuous Greek Civil War spanning 1946 to 1949. By delving into the histories of these individuals who endured such epochal times, we seek to engage with the political ideologies that molded their destinies.
The program is dedicated to underscoring the significance of safeguarding the rights of the young and equipping us with pedagogical tools to counter contemporary breaches of these liberties.
Through this educational endeavor, you will gain insights into a segment of World War II’s shadowed victims, unearth the narratives of child abductions within Greece, and engage in discourse on the vital subject of children’s rights.
