Activity Overview
Participants will innovate a new method for visitors to share their experiences and reflections, moving beyond the traditional guestbook approach.
The educational segment will delve into the harrowing history of the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp and the Soviet Special Camp, focusing on the narratives of the diverse European prisoners once held there.
The program includes visits to local exhibitions, memorials, and museums in Oranienburg and Berlin, complemented by expert-led discussions.
In the practical segment, attendees will contribute to the upkeep and beautification of the memorial site through simple maintenance and gardening tasks, requiring no prior expertise.
Lodging, Meals, and Travel Details Lodging:
Accommodation is provided at a youth hostel situated within the historic Sachsenhausen concentration camp complex, originally constructed in 1938 as the residence for the Concentration Camp Inspector, located 2 km from the memorial center.
There’s no need for sleeping bags as bed sheets and linen are supplied. Meals: A communal kitchen is available for participants to prepare meals together.
Educational Component As outlined, the activity includes an educational component where participants will gain insights into the history of the Sachsenhausen memorial.
Ideal Participant Profile
We’re seeking young, enthusiastic, and open-minded volunteers keen on learning about Germany’s somber past and the Sachsenhausen memorial. Proficiency in English and an interest in history are essential.
