Project Call-Out:
This summer, the sommerwerft festival opens its doors to 18 spirited individuals for a month-long volunteer journey with PROTAGON e.V. in the vibrant city of Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany.
The group will arrive shortly before the festival’s setup commences. Volunteers will be part of a unique living and working collective, sharing accommodations with artists and crew in a spacious house and garden.
For daily commutes to the festival’s heart in Frankfurt’s city center, volunteers can pedal their way on our bicycles or hop onto the shuttle service.
Their roles will span across the cultural spectrum, from upkeep of the communal living space to hands-on involvement in various festival zones (like the concert tent, theatre stage, bar, café, and children’s area).
The festival’s festivities unfold over 17 days, followed by a 3-day teardown and additional days for reflection and celebration among the volunteers.
Accommodation, Sustenance, and Transport Details:
Lodgings are creatively set within the cultural grounds of protagon e.V., amidst a garden dotted with rooms crafted from containers, buses, caravans, and expansive tents.
Volunteers will share these spaces with one another. Essential facilities such as bathrooms, a breakfast hall, and other comforts like a living room and laundry are housed within.
The community provides a variety of meal options (including meat, vegetarian, and vegan) for breakfast and brunch, with lunch and dinner served at the festival locale. Transportation needs are met with bicycles and shuttle services.
A palette of artistic workshops awaits the volunteers, who can enroll and partake in these sessions at the festival site.
Each morning, from 9 to 10 AM, volunteers have the chance to lead activities they’re passionate about, sharing them with fellow participants.
Should no volunteer step forward, our team members will conduct sessions (such as yoga, stretching, improv theatre, etc.). Additionally, volunteers can acquire practical technical skills, including bike repair, stage management, and audience engagement.
Desired Volunteer Attributes: We seek participants who:
Have a genuine interest in cultural festivities, the arts, and artistic communication.
Are prepared to coexist harmoniously within a bustling community of over 100 individuals, demonstrating courteous and respectful conduct.
Exhibit solidarity and maturity, essential traits for our collaborative environment. Our community is a tapestry of families, children, and dedicated workers who embrace early mornings and significant responsibilities. We expect our volunteers to approach this opportunity with earnest intent, as we strive to weave connections across cultures and generations.
