Volunteer Responsibilities:
Volunteers will engage in a variety of tasks, primarily focusing on restoration and environmental beautification under expert supervision.
The centerpiece of the team’s efforts will involve a three-day project to refurbish historical artillery, guided by a professional restorer.
Additional tasks will include ecological projects like eradicating non-native plant species. Volunteers will also support sustainable tourism initiatives and interact with a local cultural institution, the Ryhmäteatteri Summer Theatre, for an afternoon.
An in-depth orientation will introduce participants to the storied past of Suomenlinna, complemented by discussions on World Heritage concepts, conservation ethics, and sustainability.
A highlight will be a mini-seminar where volunteers share insights into World Heritage Sites from their homelands. The program also features a Community Engagement Day, inviting residents to join in the landscape efforts.
Lodging and Dining:
Volunteers will be housed in the Hostel Suomenlinna dormitories, with separate accommodations for women and men. The organizer will provide certain meals, while volunteers will collaboratively prepare others.

It’s a short ferry trip from Helsinki, a bustling city of 600,000. The fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a testament to Finland’s rich heritage and is among the nation’s most frequented landmarks.
