An international volunteering project will take place at Eko centar Latinovac, located in a small rural village in Croatia. The project will bring together 13 participants who are interested in sustainability, rural development, community building, volunteerism and multiculturalism.
Throughout the activity, participants will experience community-based living while contributing to local environmental, educational and social initiatives. The project offers an opportunity to discover a rural lifestyle, practice sustainable living and interact with people from different cultural and social backgrounds.
Project Activities
During the volunteering period, participants will take part in a variety of practical activities connected with sustainable development, environmental awareness and local community support.
The activities will include:
- Working with local schools,
- Improving and maintaining the project property,
- Organising activities and events for the local community,
- Gardening and ecological activities,
- Helping with kitchen-related tasks,
- Supporting people in the local community,
- Renovating an old school building in the village,
- Participating in community and multicultural activities.
Through these activities, participants will have the opportunity to experience what it is like to live and work as part of a local community.
The project also provides an opportunity to explore rural living, sustainable practices and vegetarian cuisine while experiencing a lifestyle that is less influenced by some of the pressures and challenges of modern global life.
Working Schedule
Participants will generally work 6 hours per day, 5 days per week.
The exact schedule may be adjusted according to weather conditions and the requirements of the activities. Since some tasks take place outdoors, flexibility will be important throughout the volunteering period.
Accommodation in Croatia
Participants will stay in the village with local hosts. Accommodation will generally involve sharing a room, toilet and shower with other people.
Some participants may instead stay directly at the Eko centar Latinovac property.
The accommodation arrangement is designed to encourage community life and interaction between participants, volunteers and local residents.
Food and Daily Allowance
During working days, the project’s chef will prepare three vegetarian meals per day for the group.
On free days, participants will receive €7 per day for food and will have access to a shared kitchen where they can prepare their own meals.
Participants will also receive €10 per day as pocket money during the project.
Travel Costs
Travel expenses will be reimbursed after participants arrive at the project location.
The reimbursement will be subject to the applicable distance-based limit. The details and maximum reimbursement amount will be discussed with participants before their arrival.
Training and Mentoring
Participants will receive regular support throughout the volunteering experience.
Daily supervision will be provided for the activities. When a task requires additional knowledge or technical skills, participants will receive theoretical explanations, practical demonstrations and guidance before or during the activity.
Each participant will also have access to mentor support through both group meetings and individual meetings.
Participants are encouraged to contribute their own knowledge and skills to the project. Sharing individual abilities can help strengthen cooperation and create additional learning opportunities within the group.
Who Can Participate?
The project is suitable for participants who are comfortable with living and working in a rural environment and who are interested in community-based volunteering.
The ideal participant should:
- Be willing to live and work in a rural area,
- Be comfortable becoming part of a multicultural community,
- Be open to different cultures and lifestyles,

A Rural Volunteering Experience in Croatia
