Erasmus+ Training Course in France: Migration, Media and Intercultural Dialogue
An international Erasmus+ training course in France will explore how migration is represented in the media, how stereotypes influence public attitudes, and how alternative narratives can contribute to a more inclusive society. The programme will bring together discussions on migration policies, human rights, media communication and artistic expression to encourage a more balanced understanding of cultural diversity.
Through interactive learning activities and creative exercises, participants will have the opportunity to examine the impact of migration across Europe and the wider world. The training will also encourage critical reflection on common misconceptions, negative media portrayals and the role of communication in shaping public opinion.
Objectives of the Erasmus+ Training Course
Negative narratives about migration can contribute to social tensions, reinforce prejudice and influence public perceptions of people from different cultural backgrounds. This training course aims to address these challenges by promoting solidarity, respect for human rights and a deeper understanding of cultural diversity.
The main objectives of the programme include:
- Developing a broader understanding of migration movements in Europe and worldwide.
- Examining European migration policies and their social consequences.
- Encouraging critical analysis of dominant narratives and stereotypes surrounding migration.
- Exploring alternative narratives that present migration through a more constructive and empowering perspective.
- Experimenting with artistic approaches and different communication tools to convey messages effectively.
- Supporting the exchange of experiences, knowledge and good practices among participating organisations.
By combining critical thinking with creative communication, the course will provide participants with opportunities to explore new ways of discussing migration and promoting intercultural understanding.
English Language Requirements and Participation
The training course will be conducted in English. Participants are therefore expected to have sufficient language skills to understand discussions, follow the learning activities and communicate their ideas to an international group.
An open-minded attitude and a willingness to exchange experiences are important for taking part in the programme. Participants should be prepared to listen to different perspectives, engage in constructive discussions and consider critical feedback.
As the training addresses sensitive subjects, including migration, discrimination and human rights, mutual respect and openness to different personal experiences will be essential throughout the activities.
Participants will also be expected to attend all sessions punctually, contribute actively to the programme and share responsibility for maintaining a positive group environment during the training period.
Training Methods and Practical Activities
The programme will combine theoretical input with non-formal education methods and practical learning experiences. Interactive techniques will encourage participants to exchange ideas, analyse different viewpoints and develop collaborative thinking skills.
Planned methods include fishbowl discussions, moving debates and rapid text analysis. These activities will help participants examine how migration is discussed in public spaces and identify the assumptions that may influence media narratives.
The learning process will be adapted to the needs and interests of the group. In addition to sessions focusing on media education, pedagogy and geopolitical issues, participants will experiment with artistic tools as alternative ways of communicating ideas about migration and cultural diversity.
The programme will conclude with an exhibition where the group’s work will be presented. This final activity will provide an opportunity to share creative outcomes and reflect on the messages developed throughout the training course.
