As part of the EU Green Week celebration in Nurmes, Eastern Finland, volunteers will lead workshops for the local community.
At the Hyvärilä youth centre, a Green Key certified destination, you’ll discover how sustainable tourism practices can mitigate environmental impact. We seek enthusiastic individuals to raise awareness through social media and workshops, share sustainable living tips, and engage with community members of all ages.
From upcycling workshops to biodiversity discussions, there’s something for everyone!
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
Volunteers will reside at the Hyvärilä youth centre, nestled along the shores of Lake Pielinen amidst picturesque forests.
Accommodation consists of shared rooms, bathrooms, and showers, with communal living spaces.
Most meals are provided at the centre’s restaurant, with occasional group dinners prepared by volunteers.
Expect to contribute to cooking duties at least once! Hyvärilä is conveniently located 3.5 km from Nurmes town, with Joensuu and Kuopio accessible within 2 hours by car. Travel from Helsinki takes approximately 7 hours by train.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
Prior to departure, volunteers will participate in online pre-departure training. Upon arrival, an orientation training session will kick off the activity.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
We’re seeking motivated individuals aged 18-30 proficient in English for daily communication.
Interest in sustainability, nature, and outdoor activities is desirable.
Openness to engaging with diverse local communities, including children, youth, and seniors, is essential. Prepare to embrace life in a small, secluded rural community surrounded by nature’s beauty and tranquility.
