ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
Collaborate with us to create meaningful programs for children compelled to flee Ukraine.
Egyesek Youth Association, in partnership with Migration Aid (MigAid), is organizing this volunteer program within their Learning Without Borders (LWB) project or Madridi Street Refugee Shelter.
The primary objective of volunteering is to consistently design and implement impactful programs that enhance children’s development and studies, while also assisting with daily tasks such as lunch and cleaning within the institution.
In the LWB project, activities like arts and crafts or a hip-hop dance afternoon club for younger participants, and computer lessons for older ones, are just a few options to enrich their knowledge and spirits.
In the Madridi shelter, volunteers will contribute to the operation of the refugee hostel, including responsibilities like managing the reception, assisting with the dining room, caring for children, supporting learning in the study room, and organizing sports and leisure activities.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD, AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
All volunteers will be housed in a Budapest hostel. Lunch will be provided at the institution, while breakfast and dinner are self-organized but covered by the project’s budget. Evenings and weekends will be free for volunteers to explore the city of Budapest.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
Prior to arrival, participants will be required to complete a self-study course on child safeguarding. On the first Sunday, a one-day orientation training will be conducted.
This will be followed by mentoring sessions to support your learning and professional development. LWB staff at the institution will offer additional assistance if needed.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
We seek motivated volunteers with a sense of empathy, patience, and experience in working with small kids and teenagers.
Effective (nonverbal) communication skills and the ability to connect well with children of different age groups are essential.
This workcamp is particularly suitable for those with experience or an interest in working with children and refugees. Basic knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian language is advantageous for volunteers.
