Course Objective:
The aim of this training course is to establish a supportive and secure environment for participants to engage in self-awareness and critical reflection.
It encourages exploration of personal biases and the examination of preconceived notions held about oneself and others within the context of youth work.
Through addressing complex identities and acknowledging the influence of unconscious bias, participants will develop the necessary skills to actively promote inclusivity both within their work and society at large.
Utilizing non-formal education methods such as experiential learning, embodiment, and individual and group reflection, participants will be empowered to create inclusive environments that prioritize diversity, respect individuality, and advocate for equality among all young people.
Objectives:
Facilitate peer-to-peer learning and establish a secure learning environment to support the personal and professional development of youth workers.
Explore the concept of biases and reflect on their implications for exclusion and discrimination within the field of youth work.
Foster empathy towards different forms of discrimination and exclusion, facilitating discussions on challenging situations encountered by youth workers in their roles.
Assist youth workers in recognizing and analyzing personal biases through self-assessment.
Equip participants with the tools to deconstruct and overcome biases, translating personal insights into professional growth.
Empower youth workers to implement actionable change in youth work settings by developing specific inclusion strategies and action plans. This may involve sharing available European resources, such as SALTO’s inclusion and diversity strategy, as well as EU and CoE inclusion policies.
Emotional Considerations:
Throughout the training course, sensitive topics such as marginalization, discrimination, and inequality will be discussed.
These discussions may evoke uncomfortable emotions and trigger painful memories for many participants, whether as victims, witnesses, or unintentional perpetrators.
Participants are invited to embrace a space where they can confront these challenging aspects of themselves, and are welcomed with all their emotions.
Prior to engaging in the course, participants are encouraged to conduct an honest self-assessment to determine their readiness to embark on this journey. The facilitators are committed to creating a safe environment that encourages bravery and provides support for participants to navigate and process their emotions effectively.
