Romania : 5 Days European Heritage Youth Project

Romania : 5 Days European Heritage Youth Project

Europa Nostra, the preeminent network of heritage organizations in Europe, along with Tășuleasa Social and Asociația Monumentum, recipients of the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards, are set to host the second iteration of the European Heritage Youth Residencies.

This event will take place from the 27th of June to the 3rd of July, 2024, in Romania.

Approximately 15 youthful advocates for heritage will be chosen to convene and engage in dialogue about heritage conservation and eco-friendly tourism.

These participants will indulge in trekking and immersive heritage activities, working collectively to create enduring materials for their peers in the heritage field and for academia.

The 2024 European Heritage Youth Residency presents a unique chance for students, practitioners, and those invested in heritage to witness the effective application of heritage-focused policies and ventures promoting sustainable tourism.

Notable among these is the Via Transilvanica, a 1,400-kilometer trail that traverses the Romanian cultural landscape, and the Ambulance for Monuments, a trailblazing initiative that performs urgent restorations on historical edifices in Romania.

The residency is tailored for individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 who are students, professionals, or stakeholders with a passion for heritage preservation and sustainable tourism.

The initiative aims to pioneer novel collaborative frameworks across different sectors, nurturing co-creative endeavors and joint ventures.

The residency’s peer-learning approach is crafted to encourage interactive engagement, collective education, and the development of solutions within a cooperative and congenial setting of expertise.

Attendees are anticipated to share their insights and experiences in sustainable tourism, including successful local strategies and ventures, along with their best practices, challenges, and insights.

Consequently, chosen participants will gain valuable knowledge and inspiration to enhance or kick-start their local initiatives, or to consider how they might adapt the showcased methodologies to their own communities.

The agenda will encompass interactions with community stakeholders, exploratory site visits, nature hikes, and workshops focused on restoration and problem-solving.

For additional details about the Residency and application guidelines, please consult the Call for Applications.

Submissions for applications are due by the 22nd of April, 2024, and can be made through the specified link. For further information, please reach out to: awards-intern@europanostra.org

The inaugural European Heritage Youth Residency was held in Italy from the 13th to the 18th of March, 2023.

A contingent of 16 emerging heritage specialists from various European locales spent a week in Naples, immersing themselves in a grassroots cultural heritage project aimed at urban renewal within the Sanità district. Discover more and view the accompanying video.

The European Heritage Youth Residencies are orchestrated under the auspices of Europa Nostra’s Network Project, the European Cultural Heritage Agora “Empowering Europe’s Civil Society Movement for Heritage”, which receives joint funding from the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
