A seminar dedicated to empowering Roma youth and celebrating their pride is scheduled to coincide with the International Roma Day.
The Roma Youth Together 2024 seminar will convene young leaders and youth workers from Roma and Travellers communities and organizations across Europe.
Its primary aim is to empower Roma youth leaders through positive actions and narratives that highlight Roma identity and cultural diversity on the International Roma Day.
The event is jointly organized by the Youth Department and the Roma and Travellers Team of the Council of Europe, in collaboration with the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC), the International Roma Youth Network – TernYpe, the European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network, and Phiren Amenca.
The seminar has the following objectives:
Sharing experiences and realities of Roma youth across Europe, with a focus on meaningful youth participation.
Empowering Roma youth and civil society to drive change and serve as catalysts for positive transformation in their communities.
Supporting participants in expressing their cultural identity and pride, both online and offline, while enhancing their visibility.
Engaging young Roma in the work of the Council of Europe, particularly in light of the organization’s 75th anniversary.
Celebrating International Roma Day with Roma youth taking a leading role in shaping the narrative.
Strengthening the sense of community among Roma youth and fostering connections with European youth organizations and networks engaged in Roma participation initiatives.
Financial and Practical Arrangements
Travel Expenses:
Participants’ travel expenses, including visa fees, for the journey to Strasbourg will be reimbursed in accordance with the Council of Europe’s regulations. Reimbursement will only be provided to participants who attend the entire seminar.
Accommodation and Meals:
The Council of Europe will cover the costs of accommodation and meals during the seminar, which will take place at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg. The venue is fully accessible to individuals with disabilities, and special accommodations can be arranged as needed for participants with specific requirements.
Working Languages:
English will serve as the primary working language throughout the program. However, participants may also use Romany as necessary.
