“Stand for Our Rights: Resilience of Human Rights Education in an Era of Shrinking Spaces” will gather the Human Rights Education (HRE) community to reflect on its role and explore how education can respond to systemic human rights violations, transforming shared values into collective action.
In recent years, the HRE community has been operating in increasingly complex and contradictory contexts.
Global political developments not only make the promotion of human rights more challenging but, in many cases, actively undermine them.
Violations are now visible even in societies where rights were traditionally considered guaranteed.
This reality highlights a growing disconnection from shared values and exposes the gap between political declarations and actual practices at both national and international levels.
How can Human Rights Education continue in hostile or resistant environments?
Are traditional tools such as charters and international legal frameworks still effective?
How can the HRE community support itself while remaining true to its core values?
🎯 Objectives of the Conference
Provide a space to critically reflect on HRE practice in this historical moment.
Facilitate the exchange of strategies, tools, and support mechanisms among practitioners.
Co‑create a shared position of the HRE community regarding current operating conditions.
📚 Approach and Methodology
The conference will be designed as a participatory learning space, applying non‑formal education principles. It will combine plenary discussions, expert contributions, and collaborative working sessions.
🌟 Expected Outcomes
The main outcome will be the Manifesto on Human Rights Education in Times of Human Rights Violations, co‑created by participants. This document will serve as a collective statement and be shared both within the community of practice and with relevant international stakeholders.
👥 Participation
This Conference – Symposium – Forum is for 40 participants.
🏠 Accommodation and Food – Venue
The group will be hosted at Open011, a hostel managed by the municipality of Torino, located at Corso Venezia 11.
Participants will stay in shared rooms of 3–4 people, each equipped with a private bathroom.
Towels and sheets are provided by the hostel.
Shampoo and shower gel are not included, so it is recommended to bring your own or purchase them locally.
