Description:
GAIN 2 is the second edition of a volunteer team project aiming to enrich the Agorateca community library, located in the suburbs of Altamura, by creating community games.
Agorateca is a space managed by the Link association, established to create a cultural hub and community space on the outskirts of Altamura in Southern Italy.
The project will involve participants in crafting wooden games that they design and build themselves. These games will be presented to the local community at the project’s closing event.
In this edition, volunteers are expected to bring traditional games from their countries to enrich the library and host community, adding an international flavor.
This edition of GAIN will focus on common elements of games from the Mediterranean region and their educational and relational values, as well as their ability to foster creativity and critical thinking.
Accommodation, Food, and Transport Arrangements
The volunteer group will be housed in an apartment in the city of Altamura, where the Link host association is based. Volunteers will share this apartment with other volunteers, staying in rooms of two or three people.
Volunteers will be responsible for managing the house according to the rules and will walk from the apartment to the activity site.
Each volunteer is entitled to a stipend in accordance with ESC rules and will need to provide their own meals.
Training During the Activity
The host organization provides support and training in social animation, intercultural education, anti-discrimination education, communication, and non-formal methodologies.
Participants will receive a basic Italian course to help them navigate their daily lives and interactions with the local community.
For this specific project, volunteers will receive guidance on working with and collaborating with individuals with special needs.
They will be supervised by a reference figure who will introduce them to basic non-formal methods for planning games and activities.
Participant Profile
Looking for volunteers who are passionate about games, creative, and eager to share games from their home countries with other volunteers and the library community. Manual skills, a collaborative spirit, and an openness to diversity and dialogue are highly valued.
The project has a strong focus on inclusion and promotes the educational dimension of games.
