ACTIVITY OVERVIEW
Once more, the European Youth Education Centre Magdeburg (EJBM) is on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers available from July 13th to August 11th, 2024.
The much-anticipated European Children’s City, known as Kinderstadt, is set to unfold in Magdeburg from August 8th to 14th.
Over this fortnight, children will have the chance to mimic adult responsibilities by engaging in play that involves constructing and managing their own miniature metropolis.
Situated in the verdant space behind EJBM, the young ones will have the autonomy to simulate political procedures, enact legislation, and operate businesses.
Here, adults don’t dictate the rules but rather act as mentors—potentially you—guiding the children through their imaginative journey and aiding in the realization of their creative concepts.
LOGISTICS & SUSTENANCE
Concerning travel, the project will reimburse your commuting expenses in accordance with Erasmus+ stipulations, up to a predetermined amount relative to your travel distance.
You’ll join forces with 80 German peers and a dedicated guide team. Lodging is arranged in comfortable 3-4 person bedrooms, complete with bathing facilities. A daily allowance of €6 is provided for personal expenses.
Meals are catered by the project, or alternatively, the ESC Group may opt for communal cooking sessions. We invite you to savor German culinary delights, with vegetarian/vegan options readily available, and accommodations can be made for specific dietary needs.
EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION
A prerequisite online seminar is scheduled before your volunteer stint: June 26th or June 27th, from 10 am to 5 pm.
This preparatory course is designed to equip you with the necessary skills for child engagement and to acquaint you with the Kinderstadt ethos.
Additionally, it’s an opportunity to gain insights into ESC volunteering, German culture, and the setup/teardown processes of Kinderstadt. To enhance interactions with the children, you’ll partake in a brief German language tutorial during the event.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
We’re on the quest for dynamic youths eager to dedicate a memorable summer to service and camaraderie in Germany, alongside a diverse group of European volunteers.
Prior experience with child mentorship is advantageous. A willingness to learn basic German is desirable, but most importantly, we seek individuals who are open-hearted and dedicated. To gear up for Kinderstadt, online sessions are slated for June 6th or June 27th, from 10 am to 5 pm.
