“The study session aims to share good practices that inspire young policymakers and empower members of local youth councils with skills to revitalize democracy and educate peers on democratic engagement and participation.
During the study session, we aim to equip with knowledge and skills to implement the principles of the “Educate for Democracy” program developed by the DYPALL Network, the Revised European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and Regional Life, and the “Have Your Say” program developed by the Council of Europe.
The working methods will be based on non-formal education principles, intercultural learning, and an experiential and participatory approach.
The goal is to encourage participants’ inclusion in the learning process through theoretical and practical sessions, allowing space for sharing, exchanging ideas, and exploring new perspectives on topics such as the core values and principles of democracy, active participation, democratic decision-making, freedom of speech, equality before the law, and social justice.
This will enhance their ability to encourage their peers to participate in democratic processes.
We will introduce them to co-management structures within the Council of Europe, which can serve as inspiration and be replicated at the local level.
By implementing this study session, we anticipate increased international and cross-cultural learning through the participation of a diverse and motivated group of participants from various European regions, each facing unique local realities and challenges.
The specific objectives of the study session are as follows:
a) Raise awareness about the importance of involving young people in policy dialogue.
b) Share good practices that can inspire young policymakers to incorporate the youth perspective into policy-making.
c) Establish a network of young city councillors with direct means of intervention at local and regional levels across Europe regarding democratic engagement and citizens’ participation.
d) Empower 20 young councillors to commit to revitalizing democracy and equip them with the skills to educate other young people, rebuilding trust in democracy.”
