What does genuine happiness look like, and how can one attain it?
These are questions that have intrigued philosophers, scholars, and thinkers for centuries.
Surprisingly, the answer may be far less complex than imagined. Each year, the United Nations releases its World Happiness Report, ranking countries based on factors such as income levels, healthcare quality, generosity, and corruption levels.
For the eighth consecutive year, Finland has secured the top position, celebrated for its citizens’ friendliness, freedom of choice, and long life expectancy.
Now, Finland is eager to share its formula for happiness with the world.
Visit Finland is inviting a select group of travelers to immerse themselves in Finnish culture and discover the roots of this national wellbeing. Participants will spend a week in the Finnish Lakeland, a region of pristine beauty with sparkling lakes, dense forests, and rolling hills stretching into the horizon.
Heli Jimenez, Senior Director of International Marketing at Business Finland, explains:
“While more international visitors are coming to Finland in search of happiness, Lakeland remains a hidden treasure. It’s the place Finns themselves return to when they want to truly unwind—a destination ideal for anyone seeking peace away from the demands of daily life.”
The initiative, called “Chill Like a Finn,” will select six pairs of participants for a fully funded seven-day retreat. The program is designed to showcase how Finns relax and restore balance.
Mornings may begin with hikes through Kolovesi National Park or refreshing swims in calm lakes. Afternoons are devoted to sauna sessions, reading, or resting in hammocks, while evenings bring candlelit dinners and cozy fireside gatherings.
Jimenez adds:
“In a world that constantly pushes us to stay connected, chilling like a Finn is about rediscovering balance. It’s a mindset deeply woven into Finnish culture—slowing down, unplugging, and letting nature do its work.
Lakeland offers travelers the chance to experience a gentle Northern summer in an authentically Finnish setting.”
Applicants must complete a two-step process, including a social media video challenge
Selected participants will travel in June 2026 for a week-long journey into the Finnish way of happiness.
📌 Applications close on 29 March 2026.
