Project Overview
This initiative takes place in the suburbs of Prague, approximately 45 minutes from the city center by public transport.
It is organized in collaboration with the Centre for Social Care and Nursing, which provides support to individuals who, due to age, health, chronic illness, or personal crises, require assistance.
The aim is to promote intercultural and intergenerational exchange, enhance mutual understanding and respect, and offer new perspectives on life. Volunteers will contribute to the UN SDG3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) and UN SDG10 (Reduced Inequalities).
Participants will engage with the elderly in occupational therapy, organize leisure activities, garden parties, accompany clients on walks, assist nurses with daily tasks, and perform manual tasks such as gardening, cleaning, and kitchen work.
Accommodation, Meals, and Transport
Volunteers will be housed in a dormitory on a university campus. No additional items are necessary as all hygiene facilities are provided.
Wifi is available, but laundry facilities are not on-site. Accommodation arrangements may change based on availability and cost. Breakfast and dinner will be provided in meal packages, while lunch will be served in the organization’s cafeteria.
Prague 15, located on the city’s southeastern outskirts, offers all necessary services within walking distance.
Training Provided During the Project
Volunteers will receive training on client interaction and occupational safety.
The training will cover social care practices in the Czech Republic, ethical approaches to social services, and communication in environments with language barriers.
Students may also earn a certificate of practice in a social and healthcare facility. The area includes Kozinec Hill, the site of an ancient Slavic fortified settlement, Hostivar reservoir, an ornithological ringing station, and the Center for Ecological Education.
Participant Profile
This project is ideal for students in the humanities, future educators, healthcare workers, social workers, psychologists, artists, and other empathetic, creative, and cheerful individuals who respect the elderly.
Participants can obtain a certificate confirming their volunteer service at the Centre for Social Care. Volunteers should bring their favorite music, pictures, or small games to share with the elderly, as well as comfortable clothing. No specific experience is required, but important personal qualities include respect for the elderly, creativity, patience, and kindness.
