Sansusī Summer ’24: A Volunteer Team Initiative
This summer, Sansusī invites a group of 12 dynamic youths from the EU and Ukraine to engage in a unique volunteer experience that fosters community spirit through artistic and cultural endeavors. The program is designed to nurture personal growth, cultivate human connections, and enhance the creative talents of each participant.
Location & Festival
Participants will reside at the tranquil Susēja Artist Residence Centre, nestled in the countryside approximately 150 km from Rīga, within the Aknīste municipality.
This serene setting will also play host to the Sansusī contemporary academic music and arts festival from August 9-11. The volunteer program is scheduled from July 1 to August 25, 2023. For more details, visit our website.
Living Arrangements
The center, once a guesthouse, is fully furnished with essential amenities. It offers dormitory-style accommodations, complete with beds and en-suite bathrooms, alongside communal spaces like a kitchen, conference hall, and leisure room.
The volunteer house features spacious dorms with shared facilities. Performances can be held at one of the three on-site stages, including a dome stage ideal for circus arts.
Participants are encouraged to prepare meals together in the large communal kitchen. For transportation, walking, biking, and limited car use are available, with a focus on eco-friendly travel options.
Skill Development
Our philosophy is ‘learning by doing.’ Volunteers will have continuous support from 1-3 activity managers and access to seasoned mentors across various disciplines.
Practical workshops on everyday skills, such as bicycle maintenance and cooking, will be provided. Additionally, cultural and artistic workshops will be organized to promote collaboration among volunteers.
Language workshops will be tailored to the group’s needs. Interested individuals can apply through our online form.
Volunteer Criteria
We welcome volunteers aged 18-30 from EU countries and Ukraine. Ideal candidates are those eager to learn, initiate, and participate in Sansusī’s activities; with a background or keen interest in arts and culture; and with or without prior local volunteer experience. We value diversity in life experiences, interests, and economic backgrounds. A commitment to engaging with Latvia’s rural communities and fostering social inclusion is essential. Participants must have a valid EU visa, as no additional visa support is provided by the project.
