PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The “Summer Camp for Sustainability and Solidarity 2024” builds upon the achievements of the “Dedicating a Summer Day to the Forest” initiative, which has operated annually from June to September since 2007.
It is dedicated to safeguarding the forests surrounding Mount Olympus through daily observation shifts from our watchtower. This vital endeavor, supported by local fire brigades, has markedly diminished the risk of forest fires and heightened environmental consciousness.
In 2024, we are extending its reach by inviting a team of 20 young European participants for a 6-week duration to engage in diverse tasks aimed at nurturing environmental awareness and community cohesion.
Hosted by Kapnikos Stathmos Katerini, the initiative is facilitated by the Service National de la Jeunesse of Luxembourg.
The project strives to generate positive environmental and societal impacts while fostering the development of interpersonal skills within a communal living environment for all participants.
ACCOMMODATION, MEALS, AND TRANSPORTATION
Throughout the “Summer Camp for Sustainability and Solidarity 2024,” volunteers are accommodated in a communal dormitory featuring 10 bunk beds to house 20 participants, with no gender segregation, evoking a typical summer camp ambiance.
Adjacent state-of-the-art sanitary facilities, constructed in 2019, ensure convenience and privacy, comprising separate facilities for men and women alongside five individual shower rooms.
Culinary provisions include buffet-style breakfasts offering a variety of options and traditional Greek fare for lunch and dinner, meticulously prepared on-site by a seasoned chef catering to specific dietary requirements. All transportation needs are efficiently managed by our team.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
We are in search of a dynamic, diverse, and driven team of participants.
Prospective candidates must possess a willingness to collaborate closely with others, particularly in the context of shared accommodation in a mixed-gender dormitory.
They should be prepared to tackle physically demanding tasks with enthusiasm and dedication, embracing the occasional challenges that may arise.
Furthermore, candidates should be comfortable navigating the warm summer climate characteristic of Greece. We eagerly welcome individuals who are passionate about effecting positive change in the environment while fostering effective teamwork.
