ESC Project - Short Term
Belgium , Sugny : 2 Weeks Volunteering in August

Belgium , Sugny : 2 Weeks Volunteering in August

The Sugny Asylum Seeker Centre provides temporary accommodation for individuals seeking international protection in Belgium.

These individuals have fled various challenging situations such as war, persecution, discrimination, and environmental disasters.

However, before they can establish themselves in Belgium and plan for their future, they must undergo a lengthy administrative process to verify and accept their refugee status.

During this period, while awaiting the necessary documents, asylum seekers are housed in this centre. Living in uncertainty, they await decisions regarding their administrative status, never knowing what the future holds.

By volunteering for this project, you play an active role in assisting the centre in welcoming individuals from diverse and difficult circumstances and providing care while they await responses to their asylum requests (UN SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities).

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD, AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS

Volunteers will be accommodated in a communal dormitory in a building adjacent to the main centre. Shower facilities are available in the central building, along with access to a washing machine.

It’s important to note that volunteers will share the basic living conditions experienced by the residents. Meals will be provided by the centre, and volunteers will dine with the residents in the refectory.

Sugny is a small, isolated village located in the south of Belgium near the French border. Volunteers will be collected from the nearest train station on the first day and transported back to the same station on the last day.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE

Volunteers should be aware that alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited within the centre. This project seeks volunteers who are highly motivated and prepared to immerse themselves in the life of an asylum seeker center.
