“The Body Rock” is a hip-hop jam that has been running for 20 years in Napoli, specifically in the Barra neighborhood on the eastern outskirts of the city.
The event is organized by TCK Movement, one of the oldest hip-hop crews in Napoli.
“The Body Rock” celebrates various street arts disciplines, including breakdancing, DJing, writing, and MCing. Artists from the local, national, and international hip-hop scene participate in the festival.
The jam takes place over two days and is hosted in two public spaces: a school and Parco delle Repubbliche Marinare (a public park).
The project’s goal is to enhance these public spaces through urban regeneration activities, making them cleaner and more appealing.
During the volunteering camp, participants will engage in various tasks, such as cleaning, maintaining green areas, and painting walls to create a canvas for international graffiti artists.
Additionally, they’ll promote the hip-hop jam within the community and design posters with positive environmental messages to display in the public park.
Accommodation, Food, and Transport Arrangements:
Participants will stay at Art.33, a cultural hub in San Giovanni a Teduccio, another neighborhood on the eastern periphery of Napoli.
The accommodation features mixed-gender rooms, a large kitchen, and a spacious living room. Volunteers will spend 14 days living and working in the former industrial area of the city’s eastern suburbs.
Public transportation won’t be necessary for their activities, as the accommodation is conveniently connected to the city center via metro line number 1.
Training During the Activity:
Throughout the volunteering project, participants will attend intercultural workshops, allowing them to better understand the local community.
They’ll also delve into hip-hop culture and street arts. Guided activities will focus on enhancing the public spaces where the festival takes place, ensuring their continued use by the community beyond the two-day event.
Participant Profile:
This opportunity is open to young people aged 18 to 30. We seek dynamic, creative, sociable, patient, and flexible volunteers who can work effectively in a team.
Those interested in urban regeneration and passionate about participating in a hip-hop festival are encouraged to apply.
Additionally, individuals with skills in social media or video-making are welcome. Above all, a strong motivation to explore new experiences and curiosity about different cultures are highly valued!
